Apply here (but read the FAQs below first!)

After you apply, we'll reach out to you if you seem like a good fit. For our interview process, we try to respect your time and not require you to do a giant design challenge. Instead, we'll ask you to complete a 20-min challenge. There are no "perfect" answers to the challenge questions; they're purposely written to be open-ended and challenge you to think critically.

FAQs

How is this better than other design jobs?
  1. Use your brain cells to solve important problems for underserved users: scientists and researchers. Your work will directly accelerate the speed of scientific research and disease-curing discoveries across the world.
  1. You'll get the opportunity to make significant impact. Our environment is more autonomous than process-driven, and we focus on balanced, rational decision-making.
  1. You’ll work with a team of highly productive and smart people, spanning from biologists to bioinformaticians to hardware and software engineers. We also work with modern technologies, including Figma for design, and React, Go, and Typescript for development.

Could you show me cool stuff you're working on?
We build our entire suite of products (including hardware, software, reagents) in-house in Pleasanton, CA.
We design new features for Cloud Analysis, a SaaS product to accelerate the analysis workflow of biologists and researchers.
We collaborate on the 10x Design System, a system of components and tokens that the development team uses to build our products.
We design data visualization software to help scientists to figure out what's actually happening in biology.
We design the touchscreen interfaces on 10x instruments to make it intuitive and simple for lab technicians to use our hardware.
We're building web and e-commerce tools to help scientists plan their experiments and projects.

What's special about the tech?

10x Genomics is at the forefront of single-cell and spatial analysis. Our products are extremely popular among researchers (quote from one researcher: "Not having 10x is akin to not having a cellphone") because we allow them to better understand what's happening at a more precise level than ever before. With 10x products, scientists can investigate the genes expressed within individual cells, which can show the precise differences between a cancerous cell (where the DNA has mutated) versus a normal cell. We're the top choice in the industry because of our system's high performance, our end-to-end hardware and software ecosystem, and our focus on customer support.

Who might I be working with?

On the software team, we bring in talent from inside and outside the biotech world, including VMware, Google, YouTube, Meta, Udacity, Autodesk, OpenTable, EA, and 23andMe.
